Leave Kampala and head southwest — the road to Queen Elizabeth is one of Uganda's great drives, the landscape opening and changing as you climb towards the Rift Valley. En route, lunch is served at a carefully chosen stopover.
By afternoon, the Mweya Peninsula appears and Acacia Wilderness Mweya receives you with everything ready. The rooms. The terrace. The channel below. The park stretching in every direction.
Tonight, the first campfire of the trip is lit under the Rift Valley sky — and the New Year's countdown quietly begins.

Wednesday, 31 December — New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve begins at dawn — and in Mweya, dawn is extraordinary.
The guided game drive takes you out into the park as the light turns golden over the savannah. Elephant, buffalo, Uganda kob, lion, warthog — the park in its full morning glory, guided by someone who knows every corner of it.
The afternoon belongs to the safari boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel — hippos, crocodiles, elephants drinking at the bank, and an astonishing variety of birds lining the water's edge. The channel is one of the finest wildlife experiences in Uganda.
Then New Year's Eve at Acacia Wilderness. BBQ with local flavours. All-night entertainment and dancing. The campfire blazing. And midnight arriving over the Kazinga Channel with the Rwenzoris silhouetted against the sky.

Thursday, 01 January 2027 — New Year's Day
New Year's Day begins with a bush breakfast — coffee, food, and the park waking up around you in the early morning light. There is no better way to start a year.
The morning takes you to the Twin Lakes — Lakes Katwe and Munyanyange, volcanic crater lakes within the park. Lake Katwe has been mined for salt for centuries — one of Uganda's oldest industries, still active today. The landscape is otherworldly, ancient, and utterly unlike anything else in the country.
Then back to the lodge for the poolside New Year's Day brunch — a festive spread, the channel below, the Rwenzoris behind you, and 2027 already looking like a very good year.

Friday, 02 January 2027
A final full-board breakfast with the Kazinga Channel below and the Rwenzoris behind you. Take one last walk to the water's edge. Let the lodge have its farewell moment.
Then the drive back to Kampala — carrying a new year that started in the wild, at a lodge that knows exactly how to celebrate it.
